The Symbiosis International Education Centre (SCIE) embraces a unique tradition of access and opportunity derived from the Symbiosis International University’s vision of ‘Promoting international understanding through quality education’. SCIE aspires to offer educational opportunities (in teaching-learning, research and service) and international exposure to its faculty, staff and students. Additionally, SCIE’s mandate is to create a ‘home away from home’ for its diverse student community (from over 85 countries) and foster all-round student success while they learn and live at Symbiosis.
As one of the leading and trusted international universities globally, we are committed to offering numerous opportunities for students as well as faculty to pursue their academic aspirations. through academic exchanges, or exposure to international conferences, seminars, workshops, and other resources making SCIE one of the most sought-after international universities in India.
- Symbiosis Centre for International Education (SCIE) is a nodal department created for international students.
- The SCIE department supports international students throughout their journey at Symbiosis, right from the time of their admission till they graduate from the University.
- This department acts as a common platform for international students , not only of SIU but from colleges and Universities across Pune, to represent their interests and voice their concerns through a dedicated international student council.
- SCIE organizes orientation programs for International Students to orient them with the philosophy of the University, respective institutes, and the city. This enables them to appreciate the local culture and surroundings better.

Prof Dr S.B Mujumdar
Founder and President Symbiosis
Prof. Dr. S B Mujumdar is the Founder and President, Symbiosis, and Chancellor, Symbiosis International (Deemed University). A renowned academic and educationalist, he has received civilian honor many times by the Government of India. He was awarded Padma Shri in 2005 and Padma Bhushan in 2012. He was also awarded Punyabhushan in 2009. The complete list of accolades is far too long for these pages, and includes Maharashtra Gaurav Award and the FIE Foundation Award.
Dr Mujumdar has a Master’s degree in Botany and a Doctorate in Microbiology and has headed the Department of Botany at the Fergusson College, Pune, for over twenty years. He has authored a number of books and published research papers in botany and served on the Executive Council, Senate, and Academic Council of the University of Pune for several years.

Dr. Vidya Yeravdekar
Principal Director
Dr. Vidya Yeravdekar is the Principal Director of Symbiosis Society, and Pro Chancellor of Symbiosis International University. Dr. Vidya holds a Postgraduate Degree in Medicine, a Degree in Law and Ph.D. in 'Internationalisation of Higher Education in India’. Having presented papers at various National & International Conferences, she has numerous research publications to her credit and has also authored several books. Ranked No.14 amongst India’s top 25 Powerful Women, Dr. Vidya has been instrumental in bringing in innovative approaches to promote internationalisation of higher education in India.
She is a member of the University Grants Commission (UGC), Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE) under the Ministry of Education and Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) under Ministry of External Affairs.
Dr. Vidya has been appointed as a member of the expert group on Global Outreach of Higher Education, a member of the Advisory Group of Analytical and Advisory work (ASA) World Bank, Advisory Committee of the IAU for the global survey on internationalization and member of the Board of Trustees of Muscat University, Oman.
At Symbiosis, we firmly believe in the principle of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,' which teaches us that the world is one family.
Dr Ramakrishnan Raman
Vice Chancellor
Dr. Ramakrishnan Raman, an accomplished academician and seasoned professional, is the Vice Chancellor at Symbiosis International (Deemed University). With a remarkable educational journey that includes a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science and Engineering and an MBA in Systems and Marketing, and a doctoral degree in Management from Pune University, Dr. Raman brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to this esteemed institution. His extensive career spanning over two decades is a testament to his diverse experience in the corporate, academic, and research domains. He has served Symbiosis for over a decade in different capacities including Professor & Director Symbiosis Centre for Information Technology, Professor & Director Symbiosis Institute of Business Management – Pune, Dean – Faculty of Management and Director – Strategy & Development.Dr. Raman's contributions extend beyond the classroom, as he has been instrumental in fostering international collaborations with universities in Japan, Canada, United Kingdom, and the United States. His prolific research in Information Systems, IT Strategy, Entrepreneurship, AI, Big Data, has earned him recognition with international academia. He has published several papers in reputed International Journals indexed in SCOPUS and Web of Science.

Prof. Anita Patankar
Director Symbiosis International University
Prof. Anita Patankar is Director of the Symbiosis Centre for International Education, and Founding Director of the Symbiosis School for Liberal Arts (India's first 4-year liberal arts college) where she now holds the position as Advisor. She has been actively engaged in the Indian higher education space for 39+ years. Since heading India's first 4-year liberal arts degree program for close to 12 years, she has focused on developing competencies for inclusive and innovative learning processes, nurturing a deep acceptance of the long-term benefits of internationalization at home, and a commitment to the creation of 'fair and just' learning ecosystems.
At present she also serves on the board of trustees of ECONET, an NGO dedicated to the welfare of tribal and disadvantaged populations, is on the Indian Members Council of the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute, is a member of the CII Africa Committee, is a founding member of the Alliance of Asian Liberal Arts Universities, and is a member of Samvedana, Symbiosis International University's gender advisory committee.
